Our brain needs us to forget to stay healthy. Odd to think of forgetting instead of remembering! Our brains are built to to retain valuable input and to discard useless information, without this ability we would develop serious mental conditions.
Forgetting is an active process. Proteins are involved to help either to store information for later use or to discard it. A disruption in this protein can cause or have an effect on certain diseases like Alzheimer’s. There is current research on this protein.
Most of us have information that we would love to forget esp. in the middle of the night! By learning to forgive we can learn to forget. Forgiving wrongs allows us to move on. It’s not always easy to overcome strong negative emotions but it is essential for our health and well being.
By making amends for wrong doings we help others to forgive and forget. If the wrong doer is punished in some way it makes it easier to forgive and forget. It’s a lot harder to forgive when amends aren’t made.
We need to remember to think positive. And when we help others forgive and forget we also help ourselves. Positive thinking is something I think we all try to do.
